Florianópolis, the capital of Santa Catarina, is one of the safest brazilian cities. Santo Antônio de Lisboa was founded in 1698 and lies just off the main highway (SC-401) some 19 km north of downtown. It’s one of the island’s oldest, most attractive and least-spoilt settlements. The houses are painted white with dark blue sahs windows, typical Azorean style (Santo Antônio has its origins with the arrival of immigrantes from the Azores Island). Lately the neighborhood has become one of the culturally liveliest in Florianópolis.
